REEF emerged when I was in my early teens and ever since have been a fairly regular stereo squatter in my car or on my iPod. Nearly 20 years later a trip to Belfast to catch them at the Limelight did not disappoint.
The Limelight is a fairly intimate venue and we were right up the front to get the full force of the show. Right from the off, the sound was everything you would expect of a band that made their mark on the British music industry with big anthem guitar riffs, punching rhythm and dirty growling bass lines, and the crowd loved every second of it.
REEF truly were brilliant, and the atmosphere was electric. It was a pleasure to watch a great band come back brighter and better than ever. Occasionally you watch a gig like theirs and something about it makes you get that little bit more excited about music. I love live music but its not necessarily every show that moves me in that way and always a pleasure to have that experience once again.
My particular highlights were their new track, how I got over & their biggest track Place Your Hands which of course it went off when the opening riff rang from Jesse Wood’s Fender.
