As our boys Easter Holidays began I took the day off for my wife’s birthday. The North Coast has many brilliant coffee spots and my wife loves coffee so we all piled into the car and headed off down the road to try a new place near the beach.
We never made it. Spontaneity took over, after finding some vouchers in the car door which I had been given for speaking at a conference a few weeks before we decided to take a trip to the walled city a little further up the coast.
Living in a small town on Northern Ireland’s North Coast sometimes I miss city life. I grew up in Manchester, nothing was ever quiet, it never got so dark you can’t see your hand in front of you, any number of sights and smells greeted you every ten yards and there was always something going on. So I always enjoy trips back to city life.
Londonderry/Derry (an unfortunate reminder of Northern Ireland’s contentious past in its duel name) is an amazing city, it has an incredibly rich heritage, vibrant culture and plenty to see and do. We love to take a walk around the walls, there is so much of the city to see from there. But there is plenty of other things to experience to, coffee houses, restaurants, theatre, peace bridge, street performers and shopping.
